With newer technology, camera manufacturers are improving sensor resolution with each model. However, the more pixels a camera has, the more costly it is. While some photographers are okay using full-frame 20MP devices, there are some who want a little more. So, for these users, we have created a list that looks at 30MP range cameras created over the years. These include DLSRs as well as mirrorless devices. Let’s dive in.

Canon 5D Mk IV

Canon 5D Mk IV

The Canon 5D series is icicnis. In fact, it has helped to create the R5 camera, which is said to be a spiritual successor to the original. The 5D Mk IV was the last offering in the DSLR range, and features a 30MP full frame sensor, with ISO between 50–102,400. It also records 4K videos at 30fps, and has Dual Pixel CMOS AF. Some other features include 61 AF points, a burst rate of 7fps, WiFi, and GPS. The camera excels at image quality, and the colors and dynamic range are excellent. The focus is fantastic, the shutter is quiet, and there is weather sealing.

Canon EOS R

The company’s first full-frame mirrorless camera was the EOS R, a fusion of the Canon 5D Mk IV and the Canon 6D Mk II. The device has a 30MP sensor, 5,655 manually selectable AF points, and 4K video at 30fps. It also has a 3.69M-dot EVF and a 2.1M-dot vari-angle touch screen LCD. The device excels at ergonomics, battery life, and image quality. In fact, we like it so much that it won our Editor’s Choice Award. As we said in our review, “The image quality of the Canon EOS R is more than acceptable. I’d honestly call it some of the best image quality that Canon has delivered thus far, in that it again is a jack of all trades. It helps deliver lots of detail, but not so much that you’re seeing pores from your subjects in many situations.”

Sony A7 IV

The Sony A7 IV has more megapixels, at 33MP, and a BIONZ XR processor. The device has 15-stop dynamic range, 10-bit HEIF format, 5-axis image stabilization, and 759 phase-detection AF points. There is also real-time Eye AF for Human/Animal/Bird, 4k/30p recording, S-Cinetone, and more. The camera excels at face detection and tracking, metering, and has a comfortable grip. There is also impressive dynamic range, sharpness, and great in-camera skin softening features. The image quality is great, but you will come across some sensor noise.

Nikon D810

The Nikon D810 is the smaller sibling of the D850. Launched in 2014, it features a 36MP full-frame sensor, 51 AF points, and a 3.2-inch 1,229,000-dot LCD. It has a high ISO up to 51,200, full HD video recording at 30fps, and a burst rate of 5fps. In our test, we found the high ISO image quality excellent. In addition, the color output was spectacular, the RAW file versatility was great, and the autofocus was quite fast. The build is nice and sturdy as well. ” Quiet shooting mode makes this one of the most stealthy DSLRs that we’ve tested,” we said in our review.

Sony A7R

The A7R is one of the first mirrorless cameras from Sony, which features a 36MP full-frame sensor and no optical low-pass filter. This is a photography-centric camera, and so, you also get a BIONZ X processor. There is a 2.4M-dot EVF, a 1,229 K-dot LCD, and a full HD video recording option. The camera has fantastic ergonomics, exceptional image quality, and super versatile RAW files. There is weather sealing, which makes it ideal for outdoor shoots. As we said in our review, “The sensor and build quality combined with the relatively intuitive interface is phenomenal and putting this much power into the hands of money is actually a bit crazy–especially at this price point.”
