While trainers may still reign supreme when it comes to fashion’s favourite footwear, they’ll naturally be replaced by sandals as the hotter months roll around. For 2025, there’s one particular style that’s set to take over: toe-ring sandals.

It’s easy to see why the design is becoming increasingly popular, given their minimalist appeal. As the name suggests, the style features a ring that goes around the big toe, making it distinct from thong or flip-flops sandals, and comes in both flat and heeled varieties. In fact, the toe-ring sandal has been popular on the catwalk for several seasons now, appearing at the likes of Hermès, Tod’s and The Row for spring/summer 2025.
“Toe-ring sandals can be polarising – there are people who hate having something between their toes and others, like me, who feel they add an extra level of security to your step,” Ancient Greek Sandals’s co-founder and creative director, Christina Martini, tells Vogue, explaining how the style can be spotted on statues from Ancient Greek times. “Some sandals, especially slides, can be tricky to keep on your feet all day – wearing a pair with a toe ring fixes that issue.”
The best thing about the toe-ring sandal? It pretty much goes with everything. “It is the ideal sandal to wear whilst out and about, from day into evening, and their minimalist, nearly naked design adds an understated elegance to any look,” Martini continues. “Wear billowy dresses and kaftans for a beachside holiday, or linen wide-leg trousers and denim for a day in the city.”
