The UAEs Best-Kept Secret: Why Ras Al Khaimah Should Be Your Next Adventure

The UAE is a land of contrasts, where the ultra-modern skyscrapers of Dubai hug the desert sands. But just a bit further north, in the emirate of Ras Al Khaimah, you’ll find a place that feels refreshingly different.  Ras Al Khaimah, or RAK as it’s known to locals, boasts a wilder, more adventurous vibe.  Here, the Hajar Mountains pierce the sky, and the world’s longest zipline lets you soar over dramatic canyons.  RAK is also steeped in history, with ancient ruins and forts whispering tales of times gone by.

My recent trip to RAK was all about embracing this adventurous spirit.  My days were filled with heart-pounding thrills, from scaling the heights of Jebel Jais, the UAE’s highest mountain, to careening down the world’s longest zipline.  But I also sought out a place to unwind and recharge after a day of adrenaline-fueled activities. That’s where the Movenpick Resort Al Marjan Island came in.

Nestled on a private island off the coast of RAK, the Movenpick Resort Al Marjan Island is a haven of tranquillity.  The moment you step through the doors, you’re greeted by the sight of the sparkling Arabian Sea and the lush greenery of the resort’s gardens.  My room was a luxurious oasis, with a private balcony overlooking the beach.  It was the perfect place to sip my morning coffee and watch the sunrise paint the sky in vibrant hues.

But the Movenpick Resort Al Marjan Island is more than just a pretty face. The resort boasts a fantastic array of dining options that cater to every palate. For a taste of local flavours, I headed to Boons, the resort’s European restaurant. There, I feasted on an impressive spread, featuring dishes like moules frites, côte de boeuf, and a little crêpes Suzette to finish. In the evenings, I enjoyed a more intimate dining experience at Ula, the resort’s beachfront restaurant. The freshest catches of the day are transformed into culinary masterpieces here, all while enjoying stunning views of the Arabian Sea as a backdrop.

No trip to Ras Al Khaimah would be complete without indulging in some shisha, and Ula’s bar provided the perfect setting for this. As I puffed on my shisha and sipped on refreshing mint tea, I watched the sun dip below the horizon, casting a magical glow over the resort. The gentle lapping of the waves and the cool night breeze created a truly serene atmosphere.

Movenpick Resort’s world-class amenities provide the perfect setting to unwind. The expansive swimming pool, pristine private beach, and rejuvenating spa ensured that relaxation was always within reach. I spent my days lounging by the pool, swimming in the crystal-clear waters, and indulging in rejuvenating spa treatments. In the evening, the resort’s stylish bar offered handcrafted cocktails in a vibrant atmosphere.
