Maruti Suzuki India Limited (MSIL) recently achieved 3 million cumulative vehicle exports, marking a significant milestone for the Indian automaker. The achievement underscores the company’s growing presence in the global automobile market and its contribution to India’s manufacturing sector. Maruti Suzuki reached the 3 million export milestone with a shipment of 1,053 vehicles, including models like Celerio, Fronx, Jimny, Baleno, Ciaz, Dzire, and S-Presso. This shipment departed from Pipavav port in Gujarat. The company began exporting vehicles in 1986, with the first major shipment of 500 cars sent to Hungary in September 1987.
Maruti Suzuki reached its first million exports in FY 2012-13. The second million was achieved in FY 2020-21. The third million milestone was the fastest, achieved in just three years and nine months. This accelerated growth reflects the increasing demand for Maruti Suzuki vehicles in international markets.

Takeuchi acknowledged the achievement as a reflection of India’s manufacturing capabilities and the success of “Brand India.” He thanked the Indian government for its supportive policies and trade agreements. Takeuchi emphasised Maruti Suzuki’s commitment to the “Make in India” initiative through localisation and increased exports. He highlighted that Maruti Suzuki accounts for 40% of India’s passenger vehicle exports, making it the country’s leading vehicle exporter. He attributed the company’s success to the global acceptance of its vehicles for their quality, safety, design, and technology.
H1 FY2025 exports
Takeuchi stated that Maruti Suzuki’s exports have tripled in the last four years. Driven by global demand, the company plans to expand its vehicle exports to 750,000 units by 2030-31.
“Our exports from India have grown by 3 times from 4 years ago. Inspired by this global demand, Maruti Suzuki is determined to diversify and ramp-up vehicle exports to 7.5 lakh units by 2030-31,” he added.
Between April and October of FY 2024-25, Maruti Suzuki exported 181,444 units. This represents a 17.4% increase compared to the same period in the previous fiscal year. The company currently exports 17 models to almost 100 countries. Key export markets include Latin America, Africa, Asia, and the Middle East. The top export models are Fronx, Jimny, Baleno, Dzire, and S-Presso.
