Lomography’s LomoApparat is a personal favorite of mine. It’s a simple 35mm film box camera with a 21mm wide focal length. It’s one of my favorite cameras to carry around when doing some casual, fun shooting. The new Alexanderplatz special edition LomoApparat brings a funky, sleek black and silver motif to the camera that is equally eye-catching as it is fun to use.
The LomoApparat Alexanderplatz Leans Into Creativity
The latest edition of Lomography’s LomoApparat Alexanderplatz borrows the rule-breaking rebelliousness of its namesake in its design. Named after the vibrant and historic public square in Berlin, Lomography does a solid job of combining history with modern flourishes. The camera sports a slick silver-colored metal surrounded by black leather accents, giving a nice balance of striking and edgy. Outside of the new colorway, the LomoApparat is still a solid choice for photographers whose priority is analog experimentation versus the same ol’ film photo. As previously mentioned, the camera sports a wide 21mm f/10 lens and can shoot at 1/100 second (N), or in Bulb (B) mode. Being a box camera, there’s no manual focusing, and according to Lomography, should be able to keep everything from about 1.5 feet to infinity in focus.
The LomoApparat features a unique built-in flash filter system with interchangeable “gels” designed to encourage users to get creative with the “light” they have. The flash is powered by a single AA battery with coverage from about 1.5 feet to about 6 feet in distance – plenty powerful enough to light up a dark room or add some fill in daylight. Lomography leans into the “experimentation” aspect by including three lens attachments, a Kaleidoscope lens, a close-up lens attachment, and Lomography’s Splitzer Lens – which helps you make of the most of the camera’s multiple exposure setting.
Ready for the Road, or Simply a Walk Around the Block
The LomoApparat is one of my favorite everyday cameras for its size and ease of use. Its size makes it a box camera that takes most of the guesswork out of composing and lets me be creative or just easily lazy and take snapshots of friends and family. Lomography’s LomoApparat is easily at home in a travel bag, your EDC, a trip abroad, or simply a trip to the store. It’s a low-stakes camera that has honestly been with me for some of my favorite recent memories. That’s the appeal of cameras of this type – the flexibility to push your creative muscles and the leisure of a simple point-and-shoot without compromising on build quality, ala a disposable camera.
