Limited-edition cameras have been quite popular among photographers. They offer some minimal changes, but they are significant for many photographers. For instance, a different color, a design change, or to celebrate a collaboration. Either way, special edition lenses continue to hold a strong appeal for people, thanks to the numerous models that are produced. After cameras, TTArtisan has chosen to also bring the same lenses. They have recently announced a new edition of their popular 27mm f2.8.
TTArtisan has introduced a limited edition Polar White AF 27mm f2.8 lens for Sony photographers. The white lens is compact, lightweight, and offers a unique color palette for many cameras. However, this is not the first time they have introduced a lens of this nature. The company announced a yellow-colored lens for Fujifilm X cameras in 2024, and a gold-colored version of the 35mm f1.4 in 2020. There was also a special red edition to celebrate the Year of the Ox, featuring the 50mm f0.95 for M-mount.
The Polar White version is available during the gifting season, and there is a limited quantity of 2,000 lenses in stock. The body is made of metal, which is pretty good. The 27mm f.28 also features 6 elements in 5 groups, just like the original lens. It also features the same minimal focusing distance of 0.35m, an STM motor for enhanced AF performance, and is quite portable.
We had the opportunity to review the lens, and we were impressed with its performance. The autofocus was snappy, the center of sharpness is pretty good for a lens of this nature, and the aperture ring makes things easy. Moreover, the colors are great in bright light, but they lose accuracy at night. As we said in our review, “But using the TTArtisan AF 27mm lens made me realize there have been quite some improvements in this type of camera lately. If I were someone who had a handful of APS-C cameras in my collection, the TTArtisan AF 27mm is a lens I might seriously consider purchasing.”
The AF 27mm Polar White limited edition lens is available for $160, making it a cost-effective option in today’s market. In fact, it is quite a steal for young photographers on a budget. Since a special edition camera or lens can cost 2x the original amount, TTAtrisans is keeping things light for the festive season. So, what are you waiting for?
