Canon RF lenses are already getting better with each iteration. Although the mount system is relatively new, the company is introducing additional focal ranges to meet various demands. For instance, they have an 85mm lens, but also a 5.2mm L Dual Fisheye. Adding to the new list, according to reports, are three more prime lenses for mirrorless cameras. Here’s what the company is planning.

According to Asobinet, Canon has published patent number P2025149754 on October 8. The three focal ranges include 50mm f1.2, 35mm f1.8, and 65mm f1.8, which are said to be compact and high performing.

The patent states that they are designed for lightweight and capable. The design features short back focus distances and rear focusing mechanisms, providing speedy autofocus. Moreover, the lenses will maintain their length, unlike STM lenses. Additionally, there are reports that the company is launching a 45mm f1.2 lens.

The company, however, must remember that Sigma, 7Artisans, Viltrox, TTArtisan, and Tamron have all lenses in the focal range that Canon has patented. The company’s own first-party mount must be priced more competitively. It can give better colors, contrast, and autofocus performance. For instance, the Sigma 35mm F1.4 DG DN Art is a great performer, and so is the Viltrox AF 50mm f2. As we said in our review of Samyang AF 50mm f1.2, ” But by looking at the results that I got, I’m just so incredibly blown away. The Samyang 50mm f1.2, without a flash added to the scene to create specular highlights, is just as sharp as the Fujifilm lens when a flash is added.

If Canon finally launches a new set of lenses, they can truly help reinvent their prime lenses with these newer ones. However, patents sometimes never materialize, and so, we just have to wait and watch.
