Avoid these mistakes, avoid amateur photos

Avoid these mistakes, avoid amateur photos

While there’s nothing wrong about being an amateur (we all go through that phase), the goal should be to progress from amateurish photos. Part of that is to intentionally avoid the biggest mistakes that most amateurs make — it’s what separates the beginners from the professionals. That’s what Evan Ranft helps us with in today’s featured video.

Apart from his own experience learning and getting ahead in photography, Ranft also talks about what he noticed from coaching photography students. “I noticed an interesting pattern we’re all making the same mistakes, like when I work with coaching students, everyone has the same problems. And once you correct these problems, your photography all of a sudden starts to improve and improve quickly,” he notes.

One such very common but basic example is not going out enough to take photos. After all, if you want to get better at something, you need to practice and give yourself the opportunities to apply what you’re learning. While you won’t improve by leaps and bounds right away, constant practice will help accelerate your creative growth.

If you did watch the entire video, which of these amateur mistakes are you still guilty of making? Why do you think you’re stuck with them? Do you even agree with all the points he mentioned? Share your thoughts in the comments below!
